Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor ( DGSA)

The size of the organisation is immaterial for the consultancy role. Acting for Owner Operators or National Companies demands the same skills. Mike is Consultant to a number of National Companies who may move a wide range of dangerous substances as well as some owner operators who only move a single substance. In between there are General Hauliers who could move anything, specialist firms like Petroleum and Fuel suppliers, specialist manufacturers and Bulk transporters.

The cost of consultancy is dependant on the amount of work involved which can only be truly assessed at an initial survey. This survey is charged at a nominal rate but is then discounted from the first year's consultancy fee if the contract is accepted. This charge is made because of the cost of visiting an organisation and the advice that would be given during the initial meeting prior to the agreement of contract.

The role of consultant includes a range of activities some of which include

Monitoring compliance with the law. Advising the employer with regards Dangerous Goods. Preparing an annual report of the employers' activities. Monitoring of a range of procedures and safety measures.   Investigating and compiling reports on any accidents or emergencies. Advising on the potential security aspects of transport

What is not immediately clear from the opening statement is that these regulations can apply to any person who allows dangerous goods to be carried by road, not just the transport operator. This could include anyone who consigns cargo, freight forwarders, warehousemen and manufacturers producing goods that will be collected from their factory.

Tachograph Issues

For an annual fee DGSA Consultancy will visit your site(s) as regularly as required and audit what is currently being done, suggest new procedures where necessary and write a report as well as being available on the phone throughout normal office hours to discuss any problems with driver's hours or scheduling in line with legislation. This can be done in conjunction with Chartcheck's Tachograph analysis or totally independently.
